The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum houses centuries of medical history. The only problem? Most people don’t realize how completely unhinged that history was. There was a time when heroin helped children sleep, cocaine came in drinkable form, and mercury was considered a legitimate treatment. We used the museum’s own collection to celebrate an era when medicine was equal parts science, guesswork, and terrible ideas.
