THE REALITY WE LIVE IN…
Each year, over three million children are vulnerable due to active shooters. As staggering as that is, it is now a part of our daily lives.
Schools are implementing active shooter drills to prepare for an event like this. The main goals are to hide and wait for first responders.
Most school shootings last 13 minutes, while it takes first responders 18 minutes to arrive. As of now, time is not on our side.
IMPROVEMENT MEANS A FASTER RESPONSE
Active Uniform Response Alert, or AURA, is a two-part system that uses an improved Hue lighting system as well as an app to alert school administrators, faculty, and first responders to a shooting event.
HOW IT WORKS
Hue lights are a combination between light changing bulbs and a bridge that connects to WiFi. The new bridge will include auditory sensors that can recognize a gun being discharged and triangulate the sound allowing the lights to pinpoint the exact location while sending this information to the AURA app.
The app will be equipped with a panic feature that will alert school administrators and first responders of an event in progress. Faculty can send an alert before a shot has been fired using the panic button on the app.
AURA will notify law enforcement and other first responders of an emergency in progress. The app will show each shot that has been fired in realtime allowing first responders to have a set of eyes on the shooter with every shot taken.
PROGRESS TO SAVE LIVES
Improving the response time of law enforcement and first responders will save the lives of more children, maybe even yours.
CONSUMER / MESSAGING ROLLOUT
IN-STORE AND PACKAGING
A portion of all Philips profits from lighting sales will fund AURA and the cost for installing it within schools. In-store displays and new packaging will inform consumers about AURA and how each purchase helps save lives.
To expand on AURA, customers will be directed to a microsite to see exactly how AURA functions.
